COVID-19 is once-in-a-lifetime health and economic disaster, which will permanently change the way people work and live. The effects on the manufacturing industry will be profound and lasting; not knowing how long it might take to go back to the world we knew.
Peoplezenn and ekincare conducted a webinar where the speakers Thrilok Abhishek - AVP Marketing ekincare, Vivek Rao - AGM HR, Ashok Leyland, and Simin Askari - VP Corporate Human Resources, DS Group discussed the strategies for workplace preparedness.
It is the significant experience of the leaders and the organization that helped them deal with the situation and ensure their business continuity. Though this time has been a bit more difficult for the manufacturing industries since there are only a few people who can work from home when it comes to this sector. While this situation may be prolonged, but I think the way organizations are going to handle it is what is going to differentiate them from being successful also in the future. So there will be a certain amount of relooking of how we are going to operate and what is it that they're going to do and how are we going to handle this crisis? said Mr. Simin Askari.
Well to this insightful question, Mr. Vivek Rao pointed out that the black swan event has given everybody a pause to reorganize, rethink and reframe business and processes. He believes that the industry has been changing for the past two, three years government has gotten something called BSX norms which has impacted all kinds of auto companies two-wheelers, four-wheelers, commercial workers, including us. What COVID has done is it has given us a fortunate pause here and that too, at the right time. While we were supposed to implement BSX norms from April, suddenly we find that in April, we are not going to have any sales. If you see sales reports for last month across auto companies, it was zero the first time in the history of India.
So for us, we see this as an opportunity gearing up for this change. We are testing, experimenting with new processes. We are engaging with customers and seeing how demand is maturing. This would help us better to manufacture what our customers want.
ekincare has been in this industry for about four years, primarily focused on corporate health services and helping organizations take care of the health of their employees. So, working with around 250+ organizations across different industries, and specifically, in the manufacturing one, we did a survey about a couple of weeks back to understand what the sentiment is around this space, by most of the organizations that are looking for conserve on run rates, spends and costs. How are the HR professionals working towards their employee wellbeing and how they plan to proceed ahead in this space?
So the survey was across 140 organizations out of which 27 were in the manufacturing space. 45% of those respondents said that the existing employee health benefits did not help them during the COVID situation. And 70% of them have mentioned that this has put on a positive impact and brought in light on that gap in the space of health and wellness for their organizations.
ekincare has put in a lot of focus on sanitization and fumigation of the workplaces to ensure a safe and secure workplace, providing on-site doctor, nurse, and telemedicine services to all their clients.
The way organizations have been operating and the way HR professionals have been working has undergone a change by now. So we all know that it is not going to be the same any longer, and we need to be equipped for that. A few basic things that organizations can do is to be prepared and to prevent any sort of issues related to the health and wellbeing of their employees and society.
