Nourish Your Soul

International day of yoga or World Yoga day is celebrated on June 21st . In Sanskrit, the word yoga comes from the root yuj which means “to add”, “to join”, “to unite”, or “to attach”.

Narendra Modi has said during his address to the UN General Assembly that “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature.”

The healing power of yoga lies in its ability to connect the body with the mind. This distinguishes it from any regular weight loss technique. Most of the common lifestyle diseases are caused due to mental issues such as stress, depression, and loneliness.  While practising yoga, we infuse our bodies with immense positive energy that helps in dealing with unnecessary negative thoughts.

There are many variants of the traditional yoga because people seek instant gratification of needs, especially losing weight.  But, actually yoga is a slow healing process that gradually cleanses your mind and body of all the toxins. Once we make yoga a daily practice/ritual we learn to be patient and start realizing its impact on our overall well-being.

On this World Yoga Day, let us spend at least 30 minutes to unite with our spiritual selves.
